Community Kitchens
It's a challenge for many people to find time to cook nutritious, tasty meals.
Coming home hungry after a long day at work, it is tempting to open a can, stop for fast food, or take something out of the freezer.
With Community Kitchens, you have an opportunity to put something into your freezer which is both economical and nutritious. You can also meet neighbors, and spend a few enjoyable hours cooking together. In March, Community Harvest held its first Community Kitchen. Participants went home with a delicious Turkey Chili, an Indian Garbanzo Bean stew, and an Italian Bean Soup. Some talented chefs participated, but inexperienced cooks are totally welcome. Our March Community Kitchen was done in partnership with the White Center Food Bank, who donated ingredients. It was open to Food Bank clients and residents of the Greenbridge community in White Center. Future Community Kitchens are open to any residents of West Seattle and White Center. We are looking for donations of kitchen equipment for our Community Kitchen. This would be a great place to donate your extra cutting boards, kitchen utensils, and large pots. See our complete wish list. We intend to hold monthly Community Kitchen events. If you are interested in participating, contact us.
