White Center Food Bank
Edible Garden
Growing a portion of one's own food is a possibility for many people. Whether you have a yard, parking strip, a sunny balcony, or even just
a window to grow sprouts indoors, nutritious vegetables can be grown inexpensively at home.
In 1943, Americans planted over 20 million Victory Gardens. The harvest accounted for nearly a third of all the vegetables consumed in the country that year. In today's challenging economic times, many people are considering growing some of their own food again. The Edible Garden at the White Center Food Bank will serve to encourage and inspire people on the possibilities of growing one's own food. We hope to provide a garden-mentorship program, to further foster self-reliance and support the growing of healthy local produce. Thanks Seattleworks volunteers for helping make this garden possible!
