We are up to 0ver 4,000 pounds - Thanks volunteers and Tree
Donors!
Apples, pears, and plums! This last month of the harvest has
certainly been abundant. We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed
- the tree donors who have shared their bounty, the volunteers
who have shared their time, and the dedication of our harvest coordinator,
Aaron Hernandez, for making it happen. It's been a great season
- we have far surpassed our goal.
Psomizo Harvests
The Psomizo garden, which was planted on the grounds of the West Seattle Christian Church this spring, is flourishing.
A total of 325 pounds of vegetables have been harvested and donated to the food bank from
this bountiful garden: swiss chard, peas, squash, tomatoes, and lots more. A winter garden has now been planted: giant
curled mustard, beets, carrots, and of course bok choy. AND, there
is now Psomizo II - in the Admiral neighborhood. A friend of Community Harvest has allowed us to use her space to grow more fall crops. Thanks Daris!!
Our Mission
Community Harvest of
Southwest Seattle increases access to urban fruits and vegetables
for all of our neighbors in West Seattle and White Center. We do
this through:
- Harvesting the abundance of our neighborhood residential fruit trees
- Providing classes to help people learn to grown their own healthy food
- Facilitating ways for gardeners to contribute produce to food banks
- Growing food gardens for those with limited access to fresh produce
- Providing canning and tree care classes
for the community
We believe that everyone deserves affordable access to the foods which will promote a healthy life.
