Lettuce Pray
Lettuce Pray began in 2008 as a summer fresh food collection program and has grown into a year around program
that collects non perishable food monthly during the fall, winter and spring and perishable/non perishable food weekly
in the summer. Our goal was to mobilize home gardeners to bring a portion of their yield to their places of worship,
where we would collect the food and deliver it directly into cold storage at the West Seattle and White Center Food Banks.
Since that time, ten West Seattle congregations have signed on as collection points and we have collected a total
of 2200 pounds of fresh, home grown produce and over 2300 pounds of non perishable food.
Our thanks to the generous gardeners who attend the following congregations:
Our goal for the summer of 2010 is to recruit an additional 5 congregations and double the amount of fresh produce that we collect between July and September to 4000 pounds. To get your congregation involved, please email Jane Taylor or call her at 206 932 9339. |
