Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle
Sharing from our hearts and our gardens

We believe in community-supported self reliance as a means by which people can increase their access to healthy foods. While our fruit harvest draws from the existing abundance around us, we also promote programs which will encourage people to grow more of their own food. Demonstration gardens are a big part of this effort.
In the spring of 2009, Community Harvest partnered with the White Center Food Bank to create a demonstration edible garden at the entrance to the food bank. Food bank clients picked peas, strawberries, and other fresh produce to take home. The garden is an inspiration for the possibilities of growing food in a small space. We hope to expand it in 2010. If you would like to help, contact info@gleanit.org. Read more about the garden on page 2 of the White Center Newsletter.
This was our first year for the Community Garden at St. James. The Garden of 1000 Tomatoes, not only fulfilled our expectations with tomatoes, (including the cherry size!) but also produced a beautiful array of peppers and tomatillos. The vegetable starts for this garden were generously donated by South Seattle Community College. Produce was donated to the White Center Food Bank. The garden is currently growing kale, kohlrabi and other winter crops. It will be the site for Tilth classes in 2010, including our Garden-Helper program.
